What a great ending to an outstanding season! We had a nice plan for the Irish and our kids were ready for them. We had faced the Irish on 2 other occasions (once in a pre-season event and another during the regular season), so these 2 teams knew one another pretty well. For those that are not aware, beating a good team more than once in a season is not an easy thing to do. I've got to hand it to our players and coaches for putting together a near perfect performance to end our regular season. Our kids simply wanted it more...and it showed with an impressive 41-6 win over the Irish.
We knew the Irish would be motivated. They have been each time we've faced them. This game was meaningful and would probably decide the winner of the D1 4th grade division. Both teams knew that going in. Both teams wanted this game.
Offensively, we put 6 touchdowns on the Irish that included 5 different players reaching the end zone. At halftime we were up 21-6, and we told our kids "...the score was 0-0 and we needed to go out and win the second half...". Our kids were not going to be denied and put up a solid 20-0 second half performance on the Irish.
On defense...we made 1 mistake all day and held a team that averages over 32 points a game to a mere 6.
We're very proud of the effort that our guys showed not only in our final game...but all season long. We played an incredibly tough schedule that had us face not only the Titans but also the Irish twice. Both of those teams finished with 6-2 records.
